Born in Ivanovo. An art historian, specialist in the Old-Russian art and architecture. Graduated from Historical faculty, Art History department, Moscow State University. From 1979 till 1992 worked at the Research Institute of Theory of Architecture and Urbanism. Since 1992 working in the Department of Old-Russian and Contemporary Religious Art at the Research Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts, Russian Academy of Arts.
Author of more than 100 works on Russian art of the XII - XVIII centuries. In some of her works on the late icon painting and parsuna she touches upon the problems of primitivism in art.
