Koz’mina Maria Georgievna. 1903-1979. Klaipeda

Born in Arkhangelsk province in the coast dweller’s family. Finished 4 grades of the village primary school. After marriage moved to Spassk-Demensk, Kaluga region, after 1945 lived with family in Klaipeda. Worked as a tailor. Began to paint at the age of 64, having received a sketch-book, paints and brushes as a present from her son-painter. While working on picture she locked alone and didn’t allow anyone to watch her. Never used any advice, painted straight on canvas without any preliminary preparation. Favourite subjects: bazaars, weddings, festivals and feasts. Altogether she has executed more than 80 pictures, many of which were given as the gifts.
