Kolokol’nikov-Voronin Yakov Mikhailovich. 1782-1845 Portrait and genre painter. Icon-painter. Son of the painter from Ostashkov, Mikhail Lukich, known by two surnames - «Voronin» and «Kolokol’nikov» (1710-after 1788). Nephew of St.Petersburg painters, brothers Kolokol’nikovs. Lived and worked in Ostashkov, Tver’ province. Probably, his first teacher was his father and later he studied at the studios of Ostashkov painters. Was ranked as a merchant of the 3-rd guild. In 1838 at the presentation of his works at the Academy of Arts in St.Petersburg was awarded a degree of a freelance artist in historical painting. Had sons, the artists - Alexander (1818-1870), Ivan (1828-1865), Mikhail (1830-1867). Self-portrait with Wife and Son. 1820-iås Oil on canvas. 67,5 õ 75,5 Tver’ Gallery Inv. Æ-770 Purchased in 1937 from A.N.Kolokol’nikova, Ostashkov; earlier in the artist’s family collection, Ostashkov On the portrait: the author, Kolokol’nikova Stepanida Semenovna (1794? - 1870), born Verigina, the artist’s wife, their son, Alexander (1818-1870), an artist. Started to paint under his father’s guidance, then studied at the Academy of Arts in St.Petersburg (1839 - 1842). Painted portraits, undertook church commissions, participated in Ostashkov theatre activities. In 1842 was awarded a degree of a freelance artist in historical and portrait painting. From 1846 till 1856 taught drawing at the local Ostashkov college. Was married to A.F.Priselkova, one of his daughters - V.A.Kolokol’nikova - is known as a writer.
