In October 1996 Andrey Tarkovsky Museum was opened in Yurievets. It is a memorial museum of Andrey Arsenyevitch Tarkovsky (1932- 1986), famous modern producer, known for his films

"Sacrifice".


A.A.Tarkovsky was born in Zavrazhye village near Yurievets. Before 1941 he often visited his grandmother (on mother’s side) in Yurievets. The period of child’s impressions was clearly reflected in the producer’s creative works.
Housing the museum is the building where during World War II Andrey Tarkovsky and his mother lived in evacuation in 1941-1943. A.Tarkovsky museum is meant as a culture center with a library and a video collection. The exhibition is informative and gives a chance to learn a lot about life and works of the great artist, also about the world of the cinema art.
