olenov's House is a unique Museum. In many art museums, no matter how rich they are, the articles are not connected neither with each other, nor with the Museum's owner. Things look different in V.D.Polenov's House, where there are almost no bought pieces. Most of the paintings were presented by their authors - Polenov's teachers, friends and students. And to hang them was long and thoughtful work. Every piece is an essential part of the house decorating it for a hundred years. Memorial funds are the basis of the Museum.

Collections were gathered in the 18-20 centuries by four generations of Polenov's family and consist of unique paintings of the West European artists: Paolo Veronese's "Jacob's Fight with God" (study to the painting); "Erection of the Lord's Cross by Queen Helena" by Franken Frank, German artist of the 18th cent., and certainly Russian painters: Repin, Shishkin, Vasnetsov, Yaroshenko, Savitskiy, Korovin, Makovskiy, Levitan, S.Ivanov and Polenov himself.

Archaeological collections are also of great interest - brought from ancient Greece and Egypt, dating mainly the 7th cent. BC.

There is also a big collection of folk applied art, but this field is best presented by the works of Yelena Dmitrievna Polenova, originator of the neo-Russian style, and creations of the Abramtsevo artistic circle. The pride of Polenov's Museum is the collection of a student and relative of Polenov - Maria Vasilievna Yakunchikova - one of the most powerful modernists. The Museum has her biggest collection in Russia, as her son S.L.Weber, a resident of Switzerland, executed his mother's will and donated part of her works to Polenov's Museum, as Yakunchikova was connected with the House by blood and by spirit.

There are also fine graphic works of Polenov's mother - Maria Alexeevna. She was not only a good portrait artist, but also a children's writer.

The family's belongings are also an important part of the collection, as well as original photographs, pieces of interior design and the library.

The funds are continuously supplemented by the works of contemporary masters of landscape and applied art.
