NUMISMATICS


Mainly the collection contains coins. Largely, they are Russian coins.
Of specific interest are exotic coins of china and leather, a brick of salt from Abyssinia of 19th century; coins from Japan and China; antique coins; eastern coins; coins from Western Europe, etc.
A new collection is being made of USSR and Russia memorial and jubilee coins.
Of particular interest is the collection of Russian medals.
Among them are original works of famous medal makers of 18th century; T.Ivanov, S.Yudin, S.Alexeyev, A.Vassilyev, I.Gass, F.Gass, I.Yeger, I.Vehter, G.Vehter, K.Lebereht and others.
The museum collection contains medals from historical portrait series depicting Russian princes, tsars, emperors. There also are medals from the series "On the events form ancient history of Russia", which was issued on the initiative of Katherine II. Certain interest is aroused by the medals on various events of Russian emperors’ reign in 18-19th centuries.
Among the Soviet medals there are original works by A.Vasyushinsky, Amutcikina, M.Shamakov, A.Kozlov, Y.Petrosyan.
The collection of world medals mainly represents West European countries.

The numismatic fund contains:
first Russian paper money (banknotes of 18-19th centuries); paper money of early Soviet years (money issued by various White Guard governments, regions, cities, enterprises), also - paper money dating back to the early period of Soviet fiscal system.
The badges collection includes original Soviet pre-war badges of various societies.
A collection of badges on country studies is now being formed.
